Day 1 – HAGERSTOWN, MARYLAND – Our fun-filled adventure begins today as we travel through West Virginia and Maryland to our overnight accommodations in Hagerstown. Along the way, we will cross the Eastern Continental Divide and also travel on the route of the 200 year old National Pike, the original interstate for settlers of the Midwest.
Day 2 – WALKWAY OVER THE HUDSON – Today, we travel to Poughkeepsie, New York, were we ride the glass elevator to the top of the Walkway over the Hudson. The elevator will whisk us up 21 stories above the Hudson to be treated to panoramic views of the Valley’s river and surrounding scenery. We continue to New York’s capital city of Albany, where we spend the next three nights. Dinner is included this evening.
Day 3 – FDR PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY & MUSEUM – CRUISING THE HUDSON RIVER – This morning, we step back in time to the 1930’s and 40’s and we tour the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum. The exhibits cover his childhood to his presidency including the Depression and war years. We continue to Kingston, New York for lunch on our own in this historic city. Tonight, we step aboard the Rip Van Winkle Riverboat for a narrated cruise down the scenic Hudson River shoreline.Our guide will point out homes of the millionaires, lighthouses and quaint villages surrounded by vineyard and orchards. Overnight same hotel.
Day 4 – NATIONAL BASEBALL HALL OF FAME – COOPERSTOWN AND CHARLOTTE VALLEY RAILROAD – This morning, we visit the National Baseball Hall of Fame, where we learn the history of baseball through photographs, artifacts, memorabilia and interactive exhibits. Next, we step aboard the vintage railcars of the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad. We’ll have the chance to experience what it was like in the 1800’s when riding the rails was the primary form of transportation. Our train takes us through a myriad of scenic areas in the Susquehanna River Valley. After a tasting at Fly Creek Cider Mill, we have included dinner this evening. Overnight same hotel.
Day 5 – WEST POINT – HAGERSTOWN, MARYLAND – Today, we take a guided tour of the United States Military Academy. West Point’s role in our nation’s history dates back to the Revolutionary War, when both sides realized the strategic importance of the commanding plateau on the west bank of the Hudson River. Our guided tour will give us an overview from the beginning of West Point in 1778, to modern times of the United States Military Academy. We will make stops at the Main Cadet Chapel, Trophy Point, Battle Monument and the Plain. After traveling through New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, we will spend our last night in Hagerstown, Maryland
Day 6 – HOME – We board our motorcoach and make our way homeward, remembering the beauty of New York’s Hudson River Valley. Meals: 5B, 2D
