Day 1 – OVERNIGHT FLIGHT TO EUROPE
Day 2 – ARRIVE BUCHAREST, ROMANIA – We arrive in Bucharest, Romania’s largest city and meet our Tour/Cruise director and transfer to our hotel for two nights in Bucharest.
Day 3 – BRASOV & BRAN CASTLE – TRANSYLVANIA – After an included breakfast, we take a full day tour via motorcoach to visit Brasov & Bran Castle (lunch included). Brasov is located in the central part of Romania. It is surrounded by the Southern Campaniles and is part of the Transylvania region. Visit the Black Church of Brasov before continuing to Bran Castle, commonly known as Dracula’s Castle. Built in the 14th century, Bran Castle was initially a border fortress on the Transylvanian and Wallachian border. It became a castle only in 1920, when Transylvania was united to the rest of Romania at the end of the First World War. We return to Bucharest for an evening at leisure. Overnight same hotel.
Day 4 – BUCHAREST CITY TOUR – BOARD MS AMADEUS QUEEN – After an included breakfast, we enjoy a Bucharest City Tour to learn about Romania’s largest city and the country’s capital and see the giant neoclassical Palace of Parliament. Next, we transfer to Fetesti, Romania and board the MS Amadeus Queen for the next 7 nights. The Amadeus Queen offers all the amenities of a floating 5-star hotel. This Premium cruise ship features the most modern furnishings that blend masterfully with the architecture of the ship and luxurious design that is the hallmark of the Amadeus fleet. Day 5 – SAINT GEORGE, ROMANIA – Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included on the cruise ship. We cruise to St. George Romania. Overnight MS Amadeus Queen.
Day 6 – HIRSOVA – CONSTANTA & BLACK SEA COAST, ROMANIA – Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included. See the golden sand beaches of the Black Sea during a visit to Constanta, the oldest inhabited city in Romania and an important cultural and economic center. The ancient metropolis was founded by Greek colonists in the 6th century and features a charming historic center and the famous Genovese Lighthouse. Overnight MS Amadeus Queen.
Day 7 – SVISHTOV, BULGARIA – Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included. We spend the morning cruising the Bulgarian countryside. We board a motorcoach for an excursion to Veliko Tarnova, a medieval Bulgarian town picturesquely located on the steep banks of the Yantra River at the foot of the Balkan Mountains featuring houses built on narrow terraces along the rocky slopes. Make a photo stop at the Zarewaz Fortress (Tsarevets) and visit the 13th century medieval St. Peter & Paul Church. Enjoy time to see the local arts and crafts on the main shopping street. Day 8 – FULL DAY DANUBE CRUISING – IRON GATES – Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included. The natural beauty of the Danube River is on full display as you make your way around bends and through the picturesque “Iron Gates.” This beautiful passage of the lower Danube between two mountain ranges is one of the world’s most scenic river gorges forming a natural border between Serbia and Romania. Two hydroelectric dams control the water flow allowing travelers to cruise peacefully and admire enormous white chalk cliffs, caves and rock sculptures. Overnight MS Amadeus Queen.
Day 9 – BELGRADE, SERBIA – Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included. This morning, we arrive in Belgrade, Serbia’s beautiful capital, whose history dates back some 7,000 years. Enjoy a Belgrade City Tour to see the Orthodox cathedral and walk through the city’s most famous landmark, the Belgrade Fortress, an imposing structure at the confluence of the Danube and the Sava Rivers. Belgrade features gracious architecture and is now a modern European city, known as “the city that never sleeps.” Overnight MS Amadeus Queen.
Day 10 – MOHACS, HUNGARY – Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included. This morning, visit the tiny harbor town of Mohacs, a melting pot of nations near the Croatian Border. Learn about two historic battles centered here, explore the waterfront and the famous Chapel of St. Rochus during your Mohacs walking tour. Overnight MS Amadeus Queen.
Day 11 – DISEMBARK MS AMADEUS QUEEN – BUDAPEST, HUNGARY – After an included breakfast, we disembark the MS Amadeus Queen. This morning, we enjoy a City Tour of Budapest, Hungary’s capital city, often described as the “Pearl of the Danube.” The capital has two sides Buda and Pest, divided by the Danube River. Suburban Buda and its historic castle district offer medieval streets, museums and Roman ruins. The dynamic Pest side boasts the largest parliament building in Europe, riverside promenades, flea markets, antique stores and cafes. Late afternoon, we check into our hotel in Budapest, Hungary. Dinner is included this evening.
Day 12 – RETURN FLIGHT HOME – After an included breakfast, we transfer to the Budapest airport for our return flight home, with memories of our once in a lifetime Danube River Cruise fresh in our minds. Meals: 10B, 8L, 8D
