This special tour to New York City will spend three nights in Midtown Manhattan and attend two Broadway shows. Come with us and see why 47 million people visit the “Big Apple” every year. It’s not just the lights, the music, the shopping, the parks and the food. It’s all of that and so much more! This trip offers the best of the “Big Apple” and is perfect for first-timers or those who want to return.
Day 1 – HAGERSTOWN, MARYLAND – Our adventure begins as we travel through West Virginia and Maryland to our overnight accommodations in Hagerstown, Maryland. Along the way, we will cross the Eastern Continental Divide and also travel on the route of the 200 year old National Pike, the original interstate for settlers of the Midwest
Day 2 – RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL – TIMES SQUARE – EMPIRE STATE BUILDING – This morning, after an included breakfast, we depart our hotel and travel through New Jersey to New York City. Upon arrival, we will take a guided tour of the beautiful Radio City Music Hall in Rockefeller Center. Our guide will share with us the history and secrets of past performances and celebrities on this behind-the-scenes look at one of the largest theaters in the world. Next, we check into our hotel accommodations for the next three nights. After our arrival at the hotel, we will enjoy dinner (on our own) and shopping in Times Square. Tonight, our Shockey Tour Director will conduct a night-time driving and walking tour of Midtown Manhattan. We will see points of interest such as St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Madison Avenue, Lincoln Center and Rockefeller Center. Next, we take the traditional tour to the top of the Empire State Building, the “granddaddy of all skyscrapers.” From the 86th floor of the Empire State Building, 1,050 feet above the city, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the lights of New York City!
Day 3 – 9/11 MEMORIAL & MUSEUM – CHINATOWN – LITTLE ITALY – BROADWAY SHOW – After an included breakfast, we visit the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum. We will look at the permanent collection of artifacts, stories, photos, videos and other materials that shape our shared history and honor the memories of those killed on 9/11. Our afternoon agenda includes visits to exotic Chinatown and Little Italy. You can shop til you drop for purses, knock-off Tiffany jewelry and so much more. We return to the hotel to rest before our evening activities. This evening, we will take in one of the many plays Broadway has to offer. Overnight same hotel.
Day 4 – MANHATTAN ISLAND CRUISE – MACY’S – BROADWAY SHOW – After an included breakfast, we are in for a wonderful treat as we cruise around Manhattan Island. Our guide will share with us some history and trivia as we sail around the island, following a route that takes us by the city’s bridges, world-renowned landmarks and up-close views of the Statue of Liberty in the harbor. Next, we stop at Macy’s flagship store on Broadway, the largest retail store in the world. We will have time for lunch on our own and shopping in or nearby Macy’s, before returning to our hotel to rest and freshen up. This evening, we will enjoy another Broadway show. Overnight same hotel.
Day 5 – METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART – HAGERSTOWN, MARYLAND – This morning, we will tour the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the finest art museum in the western hemisphere. Next, we leave this “world within a city” for Hagerstown, Maryland, where we overnight.
Day 6 – HOME – Heading for home and dealing with “sensory overload,” we enjoy the scenery as we collect our thoughts, sort out a myriad of memories and think of all the stories we will tell of our visit to the “Big Apple.” Meals: 5B, Shows: 2
